Chapter 3: Fungi and the Death of Three Trans Teens
Three Trans teens in Lancaster PA die by suicide in a single year and recent anti-Trans and anti-LGBTQ legislation is implicated. Why isn't anybody talking about this? The third chapter in the "Angry Gay Grandpa" series introduces us to Lancaster, a small town with a rich history that makes it part of the “Bible Belt” of Pennsylvania. Newscasts show how community leaders subjugate and oppress local Trans and LGBTQ youth through tactics such as book bans and attempts to shut down a local Pride event. A demonstration of how limitations on things like sports participation, bathroom usage and name choices can encircle a teen and lead to tragedy. Chapter Three also makes a comparison with the HBO series, "The Last of Us."
